Today the Church celebrates the feast of Epiphany, when the Three Kings or Wise Men were led to Bethlehem to bring their gifts to the baby Jesus. What we celebrate today is the manifestation of our Lord to the whole world; having originally been made known to the Jewish shepherds, he is now visited by the gentile Magi from the East, beginning the process by which all the people of the earth are led to Jesus. I pray that this process of Epiphany may continue wherever people still do not know him, in our own country and in all parts of the world.

I read this post as someones belief, a statement from them.
I didn't read it as a "point of debate", and I use that term loosely, keeping in mind this is AB.

If some people consider themselves high and mighty enough to argue against Maggiebees post I think they should *** off and allow other posters to have an opinion without turning it into a *** fight.

Really, do some feel the need to impose their high and mighty, I know better than you attitude on every thread?

Get a life!!!!!!
1ozzy, I’m not sure whether that’s to me or Theland - who is also adding his bit to this thread – but if you're talking specifically to me, I've got a life .... and you're clearly not averse to stating your opinion, as distasteful as it is - even though you wish to deny that option to others.
Evidence?
I see the universe and know it had a cause.
Science tried and failed to explain it.
Life - with all of our brains and computers and advanced science, we can never produce life from inert chemicals.
Bible prophecy is congruent to today's news. Incredible.
Mocking and hostility is rife, exactly as propheciide.
The world in chaos, riots in virtually every country. Predicted.
Earthquakes and natural disasters increasing.
Predicted.
Globalism, predicted.
One world religion under Pope Francis, "everybody welcome," predicted.
Increase in violence and immorality, predicted.
I could go on.
Where was the question in the OP Naomi?

Where was the invitation to debate?

Where was the invitation to belittle others over their belief?

One thing I have noticed during my short time on AB is your desire to prove others wrong, due to your superior knowledge.

If you didn't agree with the OP, and a question wasn't asked why even reply?
Wotchit Theland! If you carry on you'll be in danger of being accused of being high and mighty and knowing better than every one else on every thread! You do know better, don't you? ;o)

…But:

Simply because science hasn’t fully explained it to date, there’s no reason to attribute the unknown to the unknown. That makes even less sense.
1ozzy, // Where was the question in the OP Naomi? //

Why ask me alone?
Because you are like a "lovable dog" with a bone ;-/

Just can't stop gnawing away.
A believer has a belief in hope and justice.
It seems atheists are terrified and want death to mean death, the end of all things.
Supporting evidence must be a comfort to them.
Live how you like, then die.
The alternative, is live how you like, then give account of yourself.
Don't be afraid of death.
1ozzy, you're not so bad with the old gnashers yourself.
The 'three wise men following a star' actually predates Christianity, it was (and still is) the method by which Tibetan Buddhists find their Dalai Lama spiritual leaders. It is a complex procedure involving an oracle who tells the select high ranking Lamas by consulting reflections of stars in a sacred lake and other auspicious signs, which direction the reborn child will be found.
1ozzy, The OP claims the wise men were ‘led’ to Bethlehem [by a star, according to the bible]. I questioned that – and since every thread here is open to responses, that's fair enough. If you don’t like it - or me - that’s your problem.

Theland, if I were afraid of death, I’d cling to some sort of comfort blanket. As it is, I don’t.
Wonderful for you the Naomi.
The dog is named, "Puddles!"
I feel sorry for Maggiebee, seeing how her thread is panning out.

I don't dislike you at all Naomi, if you think back I created a post for you when you were struggling with the "new AB".

But, I can't understand why many posters feel the need to "debate" (and I use that term loosely) many of the threads here.

Surely some should be allowed their own thoughts without turning it into a "No, you are wrong" situation.

I haven't argued with Maggiebees post, even though I don't agree.
I'm wondering why some feel the need to do so.

Is it so they can show their superiority on the subject?
//The dog is named, "Puddles!"//

Woof woof!!!

;-)
And no socks!
//1ozzy, you're not so bad with the old gnashers yourself.//

Vulcan, I don't leave a lot of meat on the bone, but, I don't chew every bone I see ;-/
1ozzy, //Is it so they can show their superiority on the subject?//

Not in my case. I try to make sense of religious text because I think it contains a great deal of history - which is why I question things like the star – or who Jesus really was. For example, the wise men mentioned in the OP came looking not for something supernatural but for ‘The King of the Jews’ – that’s what the bible says - but who takes that seriously? I do.

//Surely some should be allowed their own thoughts without turning it into a "No, you are wrong" situation.//

Indeed – including me – but you’ve turned that into a “No, you are wrong situation”. Hey ho.
// //the Three Kings or Wise Men were led to Bethlehem// //
oh dear - oops sorry Nigh you have had this before
this is a bit of the jigsaw that shows the divinity of christ at birth ( offering the three signs of kingship )
and then the offering at myrrh at the 'end' showing kingship as well

done read me - read the bible !

In view of your bad temper last night Maggie
i was gonna offer a new epiphany
( y'all know epiphany means "revealing" innit ? here the three wise men are revealing the divine nature of Christ)

The three wise men came to bethlehem around when little baby Jesus was aged 5 and said - sorry we were held up at immigration
getting into this country is a botch
fly-cycle-dinghy doesnt matter how
and then and then we found a great barrier around Bethlehem and a voice came from heaven
" I'm gonna build a great beautiful warl ...."

yo dont have any whiskey do you - all three of us are parched!

Now THAT is a story for 2019 !
// Indeed – including me – but you’ve turned that into a “No, you are wrong situation”. Hey ho.//

yes you are wrong

you ahve been repeatedly told that the epiphany shows the revelation of the divinity of Christ at the beginning of the story

and all you say is - what dat den ?
