NASA has announced it is thirty years since the Hubble telescope was launched.
It has revealed the true wonders of the universe.
Brings to mind Psalm 19.

My guess is that there are other lifeforms of broadly similar "intelligence" to us, if the "stupid" things haven't wiped themselves out, as we have come close to. Maybe too far away to be contactable in a meaningful way.
Question Author
drm - Yes, good guess. Scientists do it all the time.
They call it, ''research.''
Theland, //''Stretch,'' suggests an increase in size. Yes?//

Not necessarily. Stand on the edge of the Sahara and the desert stretches out before you. That doesn’t mean it’s increasing in size. It just means it’s vast and you can’t see where it finishes - just like the sky.

//Gods' work is key, He won't ta!e a day off, or leave it to contractors :-}//

You claim to know so much about what God’s doing one could be forgiven for thinking you have a hotline - but we know you haven’t - and more to the point you know you haven't.

Science (proper science such as physics, chemistry, biology and their related disciplines) may not be perfect (and I wouldn't claim it is) but it gives us the best understanding of how the physical world works.

I would argue that it is better to try to understand how the world actually works rather than put faith in (an) unknowable being(s) and just "believe". Too many men (generally) of god have made lamentable claims in support of their beliefs. Wasn't the world created 4004BC? So what about the fossil record?
Question Author
I wouldn't put my faith in the fossil record if I were you.
Nobody puts their faith in the fossil record. The evidence it provides speaks for itself. No faith required.
why is this in religion ?
has hubble seen God ?

ps 19 - - Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

I mean it is straight out of Hubble innit
thx Theelie
Question Author
Jim - I seriously doubt the fossil record.
Don't believe it until you listen to serious scientists who are critical of it, like Prof David Berlinski, an agnostic.
Question Author
drmorgans - Take the beginning of the universe.
The scientists haven't a clue, and can't even agree amongst themselves.
Dawkins, Hawking, Penrose, Krause, Dennet, Jim Al-Khalili, and Sean Carroll all have differing theories and no proofs to contradict, ''In the beginning, God created ............. ''
//Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.//

Boney M right? Loved that band.
Theland, scientists don't 'have' to provide proof to contradict the Bible - they start from a more rational, informed point. They don't all have to agree either. I know you'd probably be disappointed if someone came along and said 'This.... is how the world started', but you must know yourself how difficult it is to provide proof, evidence - you've never managed it yet, despite the earnest pleas from ABers.
By the rivers of babbling?
Question Author
Never etc - ''God created ......... '' and here we are.
Theland, you have said that repeatedly and proved it not once, not one single time. You will revert to your circular argument, 'it's in the Bible and clever scientists haven't come up with anything else.' People have spent a lot of time and effort trying to explain 'proof' to you, you've never yet grasped the concept.
Question Author
Never etc - Don't be exasperated, I really do understand proof, and evidence, and logic, and I can read and spell my name.
Question Author
Never - Science proved the universe had a beginning, in 1929.
Prior to that it was thought to be static and eternal.

The bible said there was a beginning, a case of science catching up.

So, what was the cause? What do you think?
Ah oh, the Moon is setting.
it did have a spot of human error built in

Question Author
''In the beginning there was nothing, and by the powers and laws of nothing, nothing happened, until a child shouted that the Emperor had no clothes.
But he was quickly silenced by the Brotherhood Of Man, who did not believe in Santa, Unicorns, Fairies and other imaginings, but collectively believed in the Greatest Of Impossibilities, the Power Of Nothing.
Yes Mankind believes in Nothing, and has nothing as evidence to back it up.''
Seriously, Theland - you really think you understand proof and logic? I'm afraid your many, many claims and assertions, backed up by so very little (purporting to be so much) show the exact opposite. I don't know what was the cause of the beginning of the world, and unlike you I have never claimed to do so. Until you stop citing 'the Bible says it all' and 'God simply is' as your evidence, you will convince no-one.
