Our Selfish God.

A quote from Naomi on the, '' Benign,'' thread :-
. This selfish God says worship him or woe betide you, and the cowardly do as they are bid lest they compromise the safety of their souls in defence of truth. If man was made in God’s image it shows. What a selfish, self-obsessed creature he is.
This quote raises a few questions.
Is God selfish? Yes, most certainly, He tells us this in the Bible.
Those who do His bidding are cowardly? How? That surely demands an explanation and some examples.
I believe in God, have I made the impression of being cowardly?
On the contrary, it would be easier for me to embrace the majority consensus on God, science and evolution, but I don't. Is that cowardly?
It is true that people are selfish, that is the cause of moral evil.
So Naomi, what on earth are you talking about?

You don't "Love thy neighbour" though do you Theland? You've admitted to various different prejudices over the years here, specifically anyone non-catholic, especialy Muslims, also I recall that the trans community have taken a hit or two from you in the past.
So how can you expect others to abide by a code when you don't yourself?

//The full phrase is mutation followed by natural selection, which is true of micro evolution but not macro evolution//
How do you work that out, theland. Why can small changes be made, but impossible for bigger ones?
Quite honestly, if the God is the one we have now... I'm not impressed in this life. The last thing I want is to spend eternity with him.

Theland - long long experience of your threads on this section led me to the conclusion some time ago that debating with you is utterly futile.
You ask for others' opinions, but the reality is, you don't want them, because your mind is already made up, and you spend your time either ignoring responses, or tying them in semantic knots over days and days.
My view - although you rarely acknowledge my posts, which is fine, but I will offer it anyway - is that there is no benevolent God, and you are living in fear of nothing.
If I am wrong, he will be kind to me because I have lived as good as life as I can, so I fully expect a place in heaven.
If you are wrong, then neither of us will know or feel anything anyway.
But the difference is - if I am wrong, I will have enjoyed a far less troubled life than you, obsessed as you are with looking for the answers to questions when the answers do not exist.
Instead of wasting my time fretting and wondering and trying to please a nasty and cruel deity which does not exist anyway, I will have really enjoyed my time on earth, and had a great life full of love and laughter, with no fretting and wondering and believing and being found wanting every minute of every day.
To put it simply - whatever is next after this life is going to be the same for both of us - but I will have enjoyed the journey, and you will not.
It's a sad way to live the one life you have, fretting on a maybe - but that's your choice.
Just don't waste anyone's time on here kidding them that you want a debate and a discussion - your mind is made up, and is as closed as a tomb door.

Theland - // '' He let's too much bad happen,'' yes that is a common misconception amongst atheists, who consider that this life is all there is.
They need to remember, that if there is no God, then they have to accept all of the suffering as just a part of nature.
If there is a God, I believe in Him, then this life with its suffering is just a precursor to an eternity with Him, and that puts the suffering of this life in perspective. //
If this life is a 'precursor to eternity' - why are not all Christians killing themselves at the earliest opportunity?
If this life is so miserable, and eternal joy is waiting, what are you all doing hanging around? Isn't there somewhere you'd rather be?

Sorry Theland, but I call shenanigans on your response to my post. You have literally admitted to me that you are islamophobic in the past, and your contempt for members of the LGBT+ community has been expressed plenty of times on here. Those you aren't related to at least.
Look, I'm not trying to pick on you here, as I quite like you, but you should probably cut the bs, eh?
