Same goes for this bloke referred to as jesus. Is there any reliable proof of his existence apart from stories in dubious books ?

A surprising number of people believe in the Adam & Eve story. The much lauded Creation Museum in the USA defies all rationality. As for Jesus, there is no reliable proof of his existence but personally I think he did exist - albeit as a man rather than a miracle.

H iMamya, just curious how you bother god. Telephone, laptop ?
Oh dear, you are struggling now, not the weather for a walk though is it?

Quite a grey day out there.
Question Author
No struggle at all, just curious how you contact this god thingy.
A grey afternoon is an ideal opportunity for a read.

Look up the word - prayer.
Question Author
Prayers are totally useless, remember Ken Bigley.

Hi again Mamya. You are a much respected nice lady and I mean no disrespect.

I just cannot understand why people believe in some mythical being.
I do of course, in your view his terrible death indicates that no one gets solace from prayer.

I see it differently.
You don’t have to believe any of it sparklekid. That’s your prerogative... just as it’s the prerogative for anyone who does believe. Live n let live. We all make our own choices.

Why pray then if it is futile ?
It's absolutely your right not to believe and even to be totally mystified by it all - what I find sad is often the derogatory way some with no belief word their comments.

I have never done you any harm and will never do so but yet along with others I am bundled in as 'deluded'and other terms.

Doesn't lead to a pleasant conversation easily, does it?

Anyway, off for now - things to do.
A prayer in it self can be a comfort,it doesn't need to be asking anything in return.
Oh dear not another thread. Those that want to believe will believe, those that dont wont.

Oh and the weather is excellent here, sunny and warm. Sat here in just a pair of shorts :-)
Question Author
I think deluded is the right word for believing in something that clearly does not exist.
People who do pray generally don’t believe it’s futile. I pray a lot. I kinda “talk” to God throughout the day (and no I don’t get a letter as a reply lol) ... it helps ME. A lot. Often things that I wld like answered in one way don’t seem to get the result that I want ... but I’m ok with that because, (for me) I know God sees the big picture and what I want isn’t the same as what I need. Incidentally when I pray throughout the day it’s often just a few seconds, no more than a thought. Sometimes it will be about important stuff but often it will simply be Thanking God for random things such as seeing a beautiful tree, or how much happiness my dogs bring me. I “talk” to God without thinking about it: it’s just happens naturally. Again I want to emphasise that this is MY own feelings and like I said before everyone can choose how or even if they believe in anything at all. I just know for me I get so much comfort in my faith. I don’t know how I’d survive without believing in God as my saviour.
And yup you nailed it youngmafbob When u said

Those that want to believe will believe, those that dont wont.

Simples!
Aye, god created everything.

Who or what created god though??
Eve good post.
Roy, do you believe in infinite regression then?
Goodlife, //Flavius Josephus who is a famous Jewish historian refers to James, “the brother of Jesus…//

As does the bible. 'A famous Jewish historian' who defected to the Romans and born years after the event, Josephus' reference to Jesus is disputed and can only have been hearsay at the best. The bottom line here is if indisputable evidence for Jesus existed the question would be surplus to requirements.
So historians have to be contemporary to the events they write about.
Must tell Hillary Mantell.
That's actually a great example Theland, because she is not a historian. She is a novelist that wrote fictionalised accounts of things that had happened hundreds of years before she was born based on the writings of other people that got their information from gawd knows where. Basically what the bible is.
