my teenage brainwashing experience in evangelical Christianity was benign at first...all love etc.
Then the realisation set in that it was no such thing. It was Stockholm Syndrome at best and downright abuse at worst.

It went from Jesus/God loves you, to go to hell and suffer if you leave.
I left and spent years in fear and mental turmoil.
Your average joe cannot appreciate how much damage religion does to peoples phsyche's.

I have a friend exactly like you Theland.
He's a leftover from my evangelical youth...known him for nearly 40 yrs.
He's a Schizophrenic but currently medicated.
He street preaches. Forever giving out Bible tracts. Cant have a conversation with him without God, Jesus or the Bible cropping up.
I would just love to have a normal conversation with him once in a while, but not going to happen.
He's ill. Seen him violent. Seen him singing praises to the Lord in the street. During Covid he had to be silenced by the police and its on YouTube.
I love him. He's such a sensitive soul (while he's medicated) but a danger to himself and other when not.

Tell me,
How a medication can make the difference between heaven an hell?
If he doesnt take his medication he could litterally be a serial killer.
