I've heard enough accounts from friends and experienced enough to believe there are entities that cross the almost physical barrier into this world we know.

I believe that spirits exist but not ghosts, if that makes sense. The 'popular' idea of wandering or floating spectres in the recognisable garb of historical figures is not a belief I hold personally arent they nearly always famous?! I do believe in the presence of spirits, either guiding or observing, possibly attached to ones soul but they are not physically seen just they are felt in the ambience.
If people claim to have better powers to feel the presence of spirits than I, then that is fair enough but I wont necessarily believe them.

Yes, I've seen one Villa, which is why I have no doubt they exist.
Octavius, I don't believe a special power is necessary, but perhaps some people just have a deeper sense of spirituality than others. So many say they have seen them it would be unfair and iillogical for you to assume they are all either lying or hallucinating. I'd like you to answer Jake's question.

I too am a believer! Just because we cant explain it with science doesnt mean it doesnt happen. After all people used to think the world was flat, to us now thats ridiculous, but back then it was a "fact". I suppose the only time we'll know for sure is when we die, and I hope not too find out for at least another 60 years.
If ghosts exist as reproducible, observable phenomena then science could have a crack at explaining them as reproducible and observable phenomena. However, whenever ghosts sightings/experiences have been properly investigated no evidence has come to light. Invariably ghosts can be explained through parsimonious natural explanations, it is not illogical to conclude that there is an absence of proper evidence that ghosts exist (Im using exist loosely). The argument that so many people can't be wrong is surprising Naomi since you argue so well that so many people are wrong in believing the divinity of the bible (around 2 billion people). Ghosts are very real for the people who experience them but to say that we do not have good down to earth explanations for why people interpret explainable events as ghosts is not true. By the same token Homeopathic medicine, which works on the principle that water has a memory, is true. To hell with the evidence that it is the placebo effect, loads of people believe it so its true.

Tom, although faith in homeopathic medicine and faith in religion are possibly comparable, there can be no comparison between those beliefs and the question of whether or not ghosts exist. The first two are based on faith and the last is based on the evidence of ones's own eyes. Since I have no evidence that faith in the word of the bible is justified, I argue against it. However, I have seen a ghost and therefore I cannot deny they exist.
You're putting words into my mouth Tom. I didn't say we do not have good down to earth explanations for the appearance of ghosts - I said I don't believe that everyone who claims to have seen a ghost is either lying or hallucinating, and I think one day science will find an explanation. I'm sure there are often logical reasons for some of the things people claim they have seen, but in my case, no - there was no logical explanation. It was a ghost. Sorry, but there you have it.
