In answer to your question Octavius. I honestly dont remember if I "believed" in ghosts. I dont think I particularly believed or didnt believe and nobody had ever asked me the question that I remember. It was a long time ago. I was surprised at what I was seeing as it was a completely new experience. ( I also remember that I didnt want to see it and hoped it would go away and it did). Naomi is spot on in her comments on the subject.
i believed in something that we call ghosts, yes, but thats because of my parents and grandparents seeing such things or being aware of things they could not see.
but whether i believe in a ghost as being a person who is unable to pass on etc i dont know. I think ghosts are just unexplained visions or activities.
i know a couple who live in a house that has all sorts of strange going on in it, one is of the opinion the house is haunted, the other sees all this strange stuff and experiences things but does not believe.
how could you ever prove the existance of ghosts anyway. Even if caught on camera, or stood right in front of them, the non-believers would be looking for an explanation they could understand
All the answers to your questions are in the Bible gamegirl80!
Ghosts exist, but they're not dead people. They're spirit creatures who are nasty, very very clever and want to mess with you.
I've been attacked and pinned to a wall by one. My whole family have witnessed this spirit and we've all searched for answers. That's how I know.
Unexplained phenomina are things for which we have good solid evidence but no scientific consensus on their explanation
Things like ball lightning might fall into this (unless I'm seriously behind the curve)
Supernatural events are things which would require major revisions of established Science and for which there is no or poor evidence.
Note because a lot of people claim to have seen ghosts that does not constitute good evidence. A number of reliable witnesses seeing the same event and independantly agreeing on what they saw, preferably with material evidence might make the difference.
I doubt it grasscarp. I dont believe they visibly exist, but maybe that is why I have never seen one.
I think the you just dont understand argument is remarkably overused. I do understand, I just dont agree.
red, I often face the same point on R&S about my religion. It is not something I dismiss backhandedly and I mean no offence to anyone here. Even all the greenies that have suddenly appeared out of nowhere!
I believe ghosts and spirits do exist. And I also believe that you do not have to see things to believe in them. If I know someone who is known to be extremely truthful and trustworthy and if he/she tells me that they have seen a ghost, I would believe that.
Octavius, Keyplus has mentioned what I was going to ask you. If a friend or family member who you knew to be honest, matter of fact, and completely down to earth (ha!) told you they had seen a ghost, would you believe them, or would you say they were deluded or lying?
We have several ghosts in our house which we think are mainly children. As I've said in your other thread we live in the grounds of an old mental hospital in what used to be the women's unit. They used to put pregnant unmarried mothers in there! Since we moved in our daughters toys often went off on their own and would move. We have heard voices and both felt and seen a shadow child like figure brush past us and disappear! We actually thought it was our daughter but she was in the other room.
More recently we had a reading done in our living room and the clairvoyant told us throughout there had been alot of activity going on behind us! She also said we had a portal in the corner of the room where the spirits come and go! She showed us the exact point and when we put our hands there an icy blast shot up our arms. I guess if you don't believe then this sounds like rubbish but it is true. We never feel frightened in the house and I think this is because they are children.
