Paypal Message.

I've just had an email, seemingly from paypal, saying they have noticed that there is no address or ID attached to my account and I should log in and send them ID from either my passport, a financial statement or any official government documentation.

They also ask for proof of address via a recent utility bill, financial statement or Certificate of Residence.

They conclude by asking me for my paypal account number to be sent to [email protected]


I use paypal for on-line purchases fairly frequently and have never had a request like this before. Is it a random and legitimate security check or is it a scam ?

If the message was address to you by name it is possibly genuine. If (as is more likely) it is addressed to "dear customer" it is definitely a scam.

Log in to your paypal account but not through that link. If all is well it is a scam, which I very much suspect it is

Why don't you ask Paypal? Your Paypal account gives a phone number for contact.

The email is addressed personally to me.

The request for information is confirmed on the official paypal site and I've spoken to a rep who provided further confirmation. So, fingers crossed, it is kosher. I'll let you know if it isn't !

If its a link with https:// as the beginning of the link and is addressed personally to your name then I guess it is legit. Just to make sure everything is not scam, better to check your account online.
