I have a Toshiba Satellite and I am trying to start it up but all I get is a black screen but I can see the cursor. I have followed the onscreen instructions to repair the start-up programmes and even done a system restore to no avail. I don't really want to restore to factory settings so can anyone offer some constructive advice. Thanks in advance.

1.Rapid pressing of F8 key at boot up might work.
2.You might need to re-install Windows OS for missing elements.
What anti virus program do you have? Apparantely the update conflicts with Kaspersky. Microsoft recommends that the update is uninstalled.
