Excel 2007
I have columns of figures where some cells display $ symbol to the left, separated from the amount, which is oriented to the right.
However, other cells show both $ and amount oriented to the right.
I want to set them all to appear as in the first example but cannot unlock the secret.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried search and replace to remove the $ signs?
I'd do a search and replace to convert the cells to numbers only.
You'd need to check whether you want to get rid of $ or $+space or whatever.
Once the cells contain only numbers you can then apply appropriate formatting.
