Xp Pro Drivers

Hi Guys, Done a stupid thing. Wiped my HD on Windows XP Pro with DEBAN-Nuke before copying all drivers I will require for re-installation. Can someone give me directions as to how to get the necessary and how to install them after loading the XP disc....Yes...I'm one of the Dummies. Thanks. Tel

If it's a question of getting the latest versions once you've re-installed XP then Drive Booster http://www.iobit.com/driver-booster.php works fine on W8, and I presume it would be ok with XP since it supports that.

As I said, I am one of the Dummies and my PC (in every-day use) is running Windows 8.1 and the small Asus Netpad is the one I'm trying to re-install XP Pro onto. I don't wish to harm my Win 8.1 by downloading XP Pro Drivers onto it. I need to download them to a Pendrive via a USB port on Win 8.1 pc. Maybe it wont harm it but best make sure first ....Tel

Open the Device Manager on your laptop. (Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager). Work your way through all of the components, taking particular care to look for anything with yellow exclamation marks, to find out what you're actually seeking drivers for.

Then try to find the drivers you need on the Asus website:
https://www.asus.com/uk/support/
(If you can't find them there, try the websites of the relevant device manufacturers). Download the driver installation files, via your PC, onto a USB stick. Copy them onto your laptop. (The location where you put them is unimportant. The desktop is as good as anywhere because you can delete them after running them). Then double-click on them to install the drivers.

Hi Buenchico, Following your advice I can see I have 6 x yellow exclamation marks namely:- 1. Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. 2. Ethernet Controller. 3. Ethernet Controller. 4. Unknown Device. 5. Video Controller 6. Video Controller ( VGA Compatible) ......Not had any luck with locating them so far . If you could help me further you will be my friend for life. Tel

Exact Asus model number, please!

(You might also like to try downloading Belarc Advisor to a USB stick, copying the set-up file to your Asus and running it from there. It's a free program that can tell you a lot about what's actually inside your computer: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html ).

Which is why I suggested downloading the set-up file to a USB stick (using a different computer!) and then copying the set-up file to your ASUS.

I'll also repeat that I might be able to locate the drivers you need if you can provide the exact model number for your Asus.

Not a clue!

I've had secondhand computers with a exclamation marks against 'unknown' that have worked for years without me ever noticing anything wrong with them. You can either simply ignore the exclamation mark until you work out what's missing (because something doesn't work as it should), if that ever happens anyway, or try to match up the driver list on the Asus website with each of the items in the Device Manager until you find something that's not paired up. (Alternatively you could simply install ALL of the drivers from the Asus website. It won't do any harm to reinstall an existing driver).

Why are you persisting with Windows XP when all support will cease on the 8th April you should be considering a replacement computer running Windows 7 or 8 preferably 7 .Now is the time to look as the deadline gets near. HP and Lenovo are still making Windows 7 desktops and laptops checkout their websites
