Would it make any difference if I changed from Orange to BT broadband or does it just depend on where you live?
Thanks

Ask them what your average speed will be and if you are ever throttled down for high use (streaming for instance) or if demand is high.
My own broadband is BT and they upgraded it to fibre optic recently so I went with that.
I am chuffed to bits that I did.

So what speed are you currently getting?

My current upload speed is 17.95 and my download is 74.85mbps.
That on a browser I've had open since this morning.
I'm happy.

Why wait till the morning ... check it yourself now and see if it is available in your area ... http:// www.pro ductsan dservic es.bt.c om/serv ices-ch ecker?s _cid=co n_ppc_m axus_vi dZ59_T1 &ve ndorid= Z59& ;gclid= CJij89O Q9sECFQ PMtAod- CoAog&a mp;gcls rc=aw.d s&d clid=CN 66h9SQ9 sECFcFP fAodiVw AfA
Please be aware that the estimated speed is exactly that. It's an estimate, not a guaranteed speed.
But if fibre is available it should make a big difference. I get 8mb download with my Broadband and my next door neighbour gets about 68mb with his fibre.
The best deal out there at the moment for fibre is with Plusnet ... https:/ /www.pl us.net/ home-br oadband /fibre/ ?WT.mc_ id=aff_ 003a&am p;awc=2 973_141 5832306 _979e11 682962d 55a993d 17b0145 1c24f ... and if you go via Quidco you can get another £100 cashback. Fibre and line rental works out at about £21 per month.

If you're stuck with copper cables, rather than fibre optic, ask your ISP about switching you to 'ADSL2+'. That effectively gives you two lines connected together, doubling your download speed from that provided by the normal 'ADSL Max' service (which is what BT OpenReach routinely wholesales to other ISPs).
For example, everyone else in my street gets around 5Mbps but (because I hassled my ISP for ADSL2+, threatening to leave them) I get around 10Mbps. OK, that's not brilliant when compared to cable speeds (which aren't available here) but it's ruddy good for much of East Anglia. (There are still plenty of places around Norfolk and Suffolk where you're lucky to get 1Mbps).

Just to concur with what people have already said. Unless there is cable available in your area, BT will supply the line to your house. So check with BT if "fibre to the cabinet" is available in your immediate area.
BT have a program of putting fibre optic to the cabinet, which will be "down the road" from your house, if you live in a urban area. So if you see a brand new green cabinet on your streets, normally close to the old cabinet, you should be able to upgrade to BT Infinity.
Check with BT if this service is available. If it is, go for it, as its your only hope of getting a much better speed. I made the change in February this year and now get 37 mega pixies, and like FrogNog, I too am very pleased.

Just had a word with orange or EE as they're now called and they did a few line tests, they said there's plenty going from the exchange to my router so the problem is the amount of devices using wifi in my house.
They said if I change my landline over to them I can have fibre optic broadband which will sort out the problem, does that sound right?
