After some more 'head scratching' I think I may have figured out what settings you may changed to 'lose' your Desktop. So, try this:- - Click 'Windows Start' button - Select 'Settings' - Select 'System' - Select 'Tablet Mode' - In the Window 'Tablet Mode' C'lick the Blue Icon with a White dot' (status showing as 'On') that is located under the text 'Make Windows...

Can you see any icons on your Desktop? For example 'Recycle Bin'?
If you can see a 'Recycle Bin' icon 'double-click' on it to open and check if your missing Desktop icons are listed in there. If they are listed in there then RIGHT-click each one and select the option 'Restore' to place them back on the 'Desktop'.

@Jackdaw33.....I also shed a tear for you. Let's hope that Microsoft irons-out all the faults with W 10 and issues sufficient update patches to make W10 something really special.
I think MS will eventually sort-out all problems with W10. However we must be patient. Hence the reason for my waiting a few further months before taking the step of up-dating to an Operating System which, in my opinion, hasn't really been fully tested on a worldwide basis.

Ok. Lets see if you can reactivate and display the missing 'Recylce Bin' icon on the Desktop:-
- Click 'Windows Start' button
- Select 'Settings'
- select 'Personalization'
- Select 'Themes'
- Select 'Desktop icon settings'
- Click 'Recycle Bin' to put a 'tick' in the check box (That is assuming it does not already have a tick!)
- Click 'Ok'
Close all the open windows and return to your desktop. Do you see a 'Recycle bin' icon now? If so double-click it to see if there are any desktop icons in there as per previous info.
