How do i get the mic to work

I have just bought a mic/headphone set and on it there are 2 jacks 1 for headset and the otherf or mic, i have plugged them in but cant seem to get em to work. I do have speakers incoirporated in my screen. I can hear them but they cant hear me. Thank you

first you have to configure your sound card settings in the control panel [ sound and audio devices ] go to the voice tag at the top of the page and see if your sound card is listed there, check to see if your voice recording is enabled
this should get it to work OK
