Hi
I have just purchased an ACER Aspire 9300 series laptop computer. At the same time I purchased a D-Link Wireless Router(DSL-924 Wireless G ADSL2/2+ Router Kit) My ISP is Orange (formerly Freeserve,Wanadoo). I attempted to instal the router as per the supplied software intructions but message appeared saying that "connection failed contact your ISP". I did this, they talked me through the installation of my broadband moden using the original software supplied by them and told me to contact D-Link as they could not help me with the Wireless connection. The D-Link Router is an Easy Instal Wizard Click'n Connect. Where am I going wrong? Help!!!
Hate to say it but the D-Link routers are notorious for having out of date firmware on them.
Thats the software that runs the router, its installed in teh router.
My brother couldnt get connected to X-box live for weeks then updated his firmware on his router and bang it all came up. Check for the lastest revision on their website.
VHG ... You need to accept that not every problem on a pc running vista is due to vista.
OK if you want to bang the vista drum ... fine ... but don't do it in a way that misleads others.
It "may" be software ... but given the combo of facts ... it's almost certainly not the case .... paul is right ...d-link is almost certainly the culprit
the solution comes in two parts ....
Manually setup the router
download this ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dsl_routers_modems/dsl-g624t/dsl-g624t_manual.pdf if you don't have a hard copy
Make sure you connect to the router using a lead ... set up the router manually using the web front end and internet explorer. (start from page 13)
just work your way through the instructions
however ignore the book (p18) your
VPI = 0
VCI=38
connection type = PPoE/PPoA
Your ISP should have sent you details with your account user id and password
do check the firmware - latest is
V3.00B01T02.UK-A.20060621
1. fix compatibility with DVC-1000
(ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dsl_routers_modems/dsl-g624t/DSL-G624T_firmware_V3.00B01T02.UK-A.20060621.zip)
save the settings .... and make sure you can surf using the wired connection.
Once that works ... we can concentrate on the wireless ;-)
