Printer speed-up.

I've been trying to install a PCMCIA Cardbus 2.0 in my laptop, without success. I've blocked the firewall and anti-virus and restarted the computer on 3 trials. The disc didn't run. Have I bought a dud?
Any advice will be appreciated,
