if you've installed it properly you should have short-cuts on your desk top, and an icon on the task bar, bottom right. the icons are a yellow circle with a green tick (if all's well) or a red cross.
if they're not there click on the Start button (bottom left) and do a search for "Norton".
this may be dependant on your pc running system! best of luck :o)
I've heard Norton can be quite invasive, and may slow down your pc. personally, I've found it fine but when my subscription runs out I'm going to try AVG.
if and when you do come to remove norton (which is rubbish BTW) you will find that it does not uninstall its self properly. you need to download and use the norton removal tool

We have had Norton for 3 years and never had any problems with it.
What people forget (or don't know) is that you can "tailor" Norton to be as invasive (or not) as you want.
If you go into it's programming you can tell it exactly how you want it to work,or you can leave it as the default.
Either way we have had no problems.
PS:~It has never slowed down the running of our PC.
I'll simply add that we've used Norton for several years with both Windows 98 and now Vista successfully. I think the update facility is one of the best around.
Having said that, the last time the subscription was about to expire, I investigated another recommended virus protection. I, too, found that one needs to use a removal tool and even that, alone won't do the complete removal. There are websites that give good advice on the removal process... here's a couple:
