It may have a virus or spyware.

I suggest he gets all his personal files off the laptop (back them up), then uses the recovery program that came with the laptop to reinstall Windows.

The laptop documentation will tell you how to reinstall Windows.
I bet it is loading a lot of programs as part of the startup process.

If the programs you don't need are stopped from loading the computer will respond much quicker.

Funny you should say that when I load google home page it loads three or four pages of google and I only click the internet symbol once. I will look into what you have advised thanks
Once you've ensured that the right amount of RAM is registered (one may be lose) by rightclicking 'My Computer', you may need to look into the possibility of human causes.
You have to understand that it is a man's genetic crusade in life to have all those little free useless programs working in the background.
Go to the control panel when he's not home and remove all those forgotten programs which were proudly installed at the time.

It may ofcourse be a virus, but I asume you've already excluded that.

If there is no complicated essential information on the laptop it may be a lot faster and easier to save the "MY ......." folders on yours and re-install the O/S (Windows?) providing you are the rightful owner of the certificate of authenticity, rather than spend many hours of hairpulling and brain wrecking trying to get it back to basic.

Too late.... I really must learn to type faster and stop making coffee while in the middle of an submission :-(

>mailware as well that things like spybot never used
>to get rid of, I downloaded mailware bytes

It MALWARE not mailware.

The product is MALWAREBYTES
lol

you've started something ...

two things I'd check ...
by the sound of it you have multi homepages opening which will slooooooow things down
see this
http://www.ie-vista.com/tabs_groups.html

you haven't said anything about internet security/virus scanners
but some take longer than others to check the machine and page download (and multi pages will take much much longer) - and if you haven't got one .... you should have ...

don't rebuild the machine .... I stopped changing my car when the ashtray was full years ago

>>>You have to understand that it is a man's genetic
>>>crusade in life to have all those little free useless
>>> programs
(personally I chase women and drink!)

yea verily and it fell unto bill gates who begat windows and surveyed the vista and said it was good ....
LOL - I have no idea where this is going ...
but do scan the machine for nasties ...
