I can't believe I'm asking this and not answering it.....

I am refurbishing a PC but everytime it is switched on it goes through a full disk check. I know the cmos battery might be loose, would that cause the disk checker to kick in ??
cheers

I'm not expert enough to know for sure, but it seems very unlikley to me.

Have you tried asking here ? http://www.pchelpforum.com/forum.php
Why, the very moment I hit the Submit button do I see the PC fairies have changed my text yet again ?

Thanks for your answer.
I'm running XP sp3, the bearings in the hard drive are a bit noisy as it was previously used in my CCTV DVR.
When the power has been totally off, the computer always starts by asking for F1 to continue past bios, then kicks into the hard drive checker.
Could be that there are errors on your disc, when it has booted download HD Tune (free) and check it with this program
The CMOS battery being loose wouldn't cause this problem
