IPod

Hi...just got an iPod Touch and still messing about with settings etc but though I am connected to the web and can get maps ,weather,stocks and play the videos on utube,..... web sites won't load....the revolving activity icon thing is there but just keeps on searching and no web page appears..just a blank screen....what haven't I done right ? any help appreciated...
