I keep getting them (only on AB) for an update of Java and it's not genuine- it's a malicious ad (with an address about UPTOWN (see earlier threads).
I am now convinced there is a problem with something on AB. In fact Ed acknowledged it but thought it had been dealt with.
The best thing is to go onto the official site or go into your programs and run a check to see if you have the latest version
I too keep getting the UPTOWN page to update Java. On Chrome and only on this site.
If in doubt, - don't! Even genuine requests from java to update are a ruse to get you to forget to uncheck that little box and you end with an unwanted toolbar and more, then removing it is such a bore.
i still have poxy ads popping up since clicking on that update

had to remove loads of stuff off the laptop , had malwarebytes run over 10 times with all the updates and scanned each day

it will not win

i have a sledgehammer and bolt cutters :-)
DrF- yes, that's the one I had a few times- I think it was www.updown... rather than uptown but methyl will remember- he warned about it too.
It closed AB down each time
ff that is the one that started all my trouble with the pop up ads
I keep getting the Java one, again only on AB, why is that?

Because they've ^^ left the backdoor open again!
don't click on it

This answer will be removed I think. I know we need ads to support AB but this one was concerning me so much that I had to take drastic action and this involved using another product with the initials AB. I'll stop using that once Ed can assure us that the Java update pop up has been banished.

Sorry if this is a diversion, trt. I don't know if your Flash and Media Player ones are related to this bogus Java popup. But I wouldn't click on them - I'd go via the official channels only
I dont touch it, I just close the the affected tab.

Actually, I did think this was the 'rainy Saturday afternoon, let's have a giggle.' thread.

I was wrong.
Sorry chaps!
