Can someone give me the name or link to a Wi-Fi Router/Extender that actually works.

For example, if your router is at the front of your house and you're getting a lousy wi-fi signal at the back of your house, putting a wi-fi extender at the back of the house won't help. It need to be in the middle of the house, where it can receive a good signal and then pass it on from there.
With that said, most wi-fi extenders are reasonably good at their jobs, although the construction of some buildings can cause problems.

Powerline extenders should still work when you've got separate power circuit, Barry, as long as the wiring ends up at the same distribution board:

I've never tried them myself though, so I can't really comment further (other than to note that quite a few ABers seem to use them, with good results). My little one bedroom 'starter home' is so small that I'm almost in touching distance of my router (if it wasn't for a wall or a ceiling) anywhere in the house, so I've never had need of an extender of any type,
