Change of trading name

The company for which I work has a registered Limited Co name in the UK. However we operate under a trading name and now need to change this to another name.

Are there any formal steps we need to take to do this? We have notified our suppliers, bank etc but have been asked by our mobile phone provider for a copy of the certificate of name change. Do we need this and if so how do we go about it?

In addition some suppliers are insisting that we open new credit accounts even though there have been no changes to the Company other than the trading name change - is this usual?
