Sound Editing

I have recently recorded some spoken word .wma files on my laptop, using the 'Sound Recording' option on the Start-up menu.

I need to do a little bit of editing to these....nothing much, just a little pruning (of me swearing at the end of most segments, truth to tell).

As far as I can tell, this is the only 'Recording' software I have......there are several 'playback' options I have, but none of these seem to allow me to edit the recordings.

My laptops runs on Vista....is there anything likely to be installed that I can use, or does anyone have any suggestions as to the most simple option available?

Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You'll need the LAME codec to turn the files into mp3's, although you can just export them as raw WAV's. Here's the howto: http://audacity.sourc...em=lame-mp3&s=install

Audacity is very easy to use and entirely free.

What I ultimately want to do is burn them onto a CD......

Would Audacity still be the most appropriate way of manipulating them?

Yep, absolutely. Save them as MP3's and burn them as normal tracks.

Run the audacity installer, run the LAME installer.

Play with your tracks (just drag them into an open Audacity to open them)

Save them as a project for a back up.

Then , when done, click "Export as MP3" It may as you where LAME is, go find it in the computer browser.

It should export it.

DONE.

Erm........

I did that but "Audacity cannot open this type of file due to patent restrictions. You need to convert it to a supported Audio format such as WAV or AIFF".

WMA files, it says in the question :)

If you installed the BETA version from eds link it should be able to import WMAs if you also install the ffmpeg library...

If you installed the early version on eds link it can't import them at all.

Thankyou all for your help and suggestions.
I downloaded 'Audacity' but it was far too technimalogical for me....

The WavePad Sound Editor as linked by tamborine, is everso easy to use and I'm whizzing along, now......so many thanks to all for trying to help me.....and special thanks to tambo for finding something that matches my standard of expertise!! :o)
