Computer slow

Has anyone else noticed that their computers are running rather slow today?

Different topics on AnswerBank are slow on loading, and when I type the letters take a second or so to appear, even the mouse pointer sometimes take a while to appear, and it's scrolling ability is slow to work.

I know from an earlier thread that aog has a number of Firefox Add-ons.

Perhaps he has too many and they are using-up an awful lot of resources; as suggested by Chris. It might be interesting to know what add-ons the OP has.

My desktop is a Targa with auto defrag. Now and then this causes the same symptoms as Oldgit's having. Each time, I have to wait a few seconds until it's finished doing its own thing.

Chuck could you please lay out how to start backing up my documents ie how many discs would it take, should they be DVDs or CDs, and how do I re-install Windows, because I don't seem to have the disc?

I hope Chuck responds again in this thread, because he does appear to have suggested very severe action; which I would be fearful of taking without trying all other options.
