Is This A Virus Email?
5 Answers
I just got off the phone with a friend of mine and was checking my emails when i came across one from the friend i had literally just finished taking to and what was weird is the email title was "Hello"
I've known this friend for over 5 years and not one email i've ever had was titled "hello" and is always titled something outrageous or extreme as that's her nature. Anyway the email said " Breakthrough diet exposed: Celebrity doctor discovers the "holy grail of weight loss"
With a dodgy looking link like this at the bottom
http:// ezjav.c om/bmhs wqrthbw gf.php
( ^ive changed some of the characters in in case it turns into a link )
Is this a virus? She certainly didn't send me nothing but said she's had many emails come back undelivered which she hasn't even sent in the first place!
What's going on?

It is not a virus, it is just spam email try to encourage you to click on the link and it will probably be trying to sell you something. Delete it. SHE has the problem as someone has hacked into her email account and is sending spam emails out from HER email system. ^DON'T CLICK ON THAT!
I just did as i changed the letters around luckily and it said
"Infinity 404
Whoah! You broke something!
Just kidding! You tried going to http:// ezjav.c om/bmhs wqrthbw gf.php, which doesn't exist, so that means I probably broke something.
The following is a list of the latest posts from the blog. Maybe it will help you find what you're looking for."
And says at the top that this "Page is in japaneses, would i like them to translate it"?
Is it possible that even though i've changed around a few characters that it's still a virus address?

I delete anything that looks suspicious, or get in touch with the person who supposedly sent it to ask if it's genuine.
In fact I got a text message from a friend today to say her emails had been hacked and that she's not sent me any recent emails in case anything appears in my inbox.
You wonder why people go to the bother of building and sending out viruses.

SHE has the problem as someone has hacked into her email account and is sending spam emails out from HER email system.
She may even be a BOTNET which is used by spammers to send out email to hundreds of people (from HER computer) without her knowing it.
Tell her to
Change her email password (and perhaps change other important passwords like ebay, amazon, banking password etc.). Tell her to make the email password different from any other password she uses.
She should run as many virus and malware scans on her PC as she can.
If she has no security software get her to download Microsoft Security Essential AND Malwarebytes (both free). Get her up update them and run them then delete any viruses or other problem they find.
YOU should be wary of ANY email you get from her and NEVER click on a link in an email you get from her (even if it looks genuine)

Thanks a lot guys, i did delete it and copied it into paint before altering it so i could post it here.
Thank you soo much vhg, i've spent the last 10 mins myself doing a scan whilst calling myself a dozy mare for clicking on my link even though i had altered it thinking that knowing my luck there could've been a virus with the exact characters i altered the original to!
I'll email her with a link to this question so she can take your advuce!
Thanks all!
