Digital boxes

why is there such a diffrence in price with these boxes is there a diffrence in what they do or what channells they pick up . Can someone suggest a good one to buy . Thanks guys and girls.

If you mean a Freeview digital box, then I can recommend a Thomson. A TV engineer I know recommended it (no.. he doesn't sell them!! heheh). It automatically sets itself up when plugged in.. and I've got two and now problems at all. Got it from Argos.

If you can still find one an Echostar FTA101 Plus is an excellent box. Woolies stock them but I believe stock is limited - �40 if you can find one.

I've had the FTA101 for 2 years now and it's a stable box, works well with a relatively low signal. The Plus model gives you 7 day EPG information.

I can agree with honkytonkman, we have a Thompson DTI 2300 and we have had no problems with it. I was (when we bought it) the only one with a built in TopupTV card reader. We paid �7 I think for a months subscription to TopupTV and we have had all the extra channels since then (about a year ago) although we only paid for a month!!

I have also a DigiTV PCI (Freeview) card in my PC and that is fantastic. I can record any freeview programm either onto hard disk or a re recordable DVD.

Bought my mother a Sagem (think it was an ITD62) for Christmas. It was only �39.99 from Comet. Set up in moments and no problems so far...

I had a Ferguson FDT2000 which was very good.. unfortunately it packed up so I went to by a new one and found many had less features on.. things I wanted were.. 2 Scart sockets, RF IN and OUT (for tv co-axial cable) and 2 PHONO plugs (so it can be plugged into a AUX socket on my Hi-Fi).
I got one which had these things eventually from Currys.. a MATSUI DTR1 .. they both are easy to set up, etc, but the matsui does not have a built in RF modulator.. the Ferguson had.. which meant it puts out a signal on UHF channel 22.
As I have a co-axial cable from living room TV to a portable in my dining room I can watch the satelite and any video that is on in the living room.. and I could watch the freeview channel.. but not with the Matsui as it hasn't got a rf modulator built in.
