I am thinking of replacing my PC with a lap top but have been told to avoid windows 8. Why has it got such a bad reputation. Where could I get a lap top with windows 7 on it?
thanks in advance for any help

It's a perfectly sound Windows version - you just need to get used to a different desktop (although even this can be made to look pretty much like Windows 7 if you have a tame techie/teenager).
I use Win 7 on some machines, Win 8 on others, various apple and android systems too - they all have good/bad points - none is perfect, but Win 8 is by no means the worst.
If you must have a Win 7 system there are still plenty about - just look at this list here :

Or just search on Amazon

i also dont see why so many hate windows 8
i think it is probably because many people dont realise you can easily customise it to look just like windows 7 - and you need never use the 'tile' interface ever if you dont want to
i have set mine that you would barely know the difference and only use the tiles when i feel like it
its a bit like having a normal laptop and an android tablet in one machine
if you spend a bit of time messing with it, you will be happy with it
