Search Engine Default

When I start up my PC, the AVG web site appears as my opening page. I have gone to Tools / Options and entered Google as my default which I prefer, and this works whilst the PC is on. However, when I shut down and start up again, the damn AVG page appears. How can I stop this so Google always appears, as AVG is nothing like as useful as Google and I don't want to have to go Tools / Options every day to get Google as my search engine

Somehow 'AVG Search' has become embedded in your computer. The official way to remove is as follows. :-

I feel sure AVG has an option to turn off the protection. It was happening on my woman's PC and it wasn't hard to find, wherever it was.

AVG Search is Not part of any Anti Virus programme. It is a PUP (potentially unwanted program) and falls within the category of Malware. The Browser Hijacker arrives along with some other programme that has been downloaded ( possibly one for streaming Videos ) Consequently, whilst it can be removed as I have indicated, it is also advisable to give a run through with the free edition of Malwarebytes to make sure all PUPS are 'cleaned-out'.

Thanx guys. I have AVG as my antivirus, so not doubt have to be careful what I " turn off" Perhaps to make Google my Home Page is the easy option

A scan with Malwarebytes is unlikely to identify your Anti Virus programme as a PUP. However you could be surprised by finding that, perhaps unknown to you, there are a number of Malware items in your computer which can be safely removed after having first been quarantined for a decision from you on the question of their removal.

Everyone should have Anti Virus and Malware programmes; but only one of each so as to avoid conflicts which can be really problematic.
