Control Alt Delete pressed together brings up a menu. One of the options is Task Manager.
With Task Manager running it's first tab screen shows which programs your PC is running. You can click to highlight/select a rogue one. Should be a button visible saying 'end task'. Or you can right click the rogue programme and select 'end task' there.
After it's ended you can always restart it again in the normal way should you wish to do so.
I did what you said and clicked on Task Manager. A box called Task Manager came up in the top left hand side of the screen. It said Internet Explorer, and under that was Settings. I clicked on the bottom right where it said "end task", and now "Settings" is gone. There's only Internet Explorer in that box now. Does it matter? Thanks
Oh wow, I shall have to reproduce what you did to see if I can work out what's happened.
Ctrl/Alt/Del Ok
Menu, select Task Manager OK
Task Manager starts OK
Task manager has a number of tabs at the top. You really need the "Applications" one but "Processes" will work too.
I take it you highlighted the "Internet Explorer" line as the rogue application in order to select it ?
I'm unsure how you saw a reference to "Settings" though. I think that must have been a different window/application you had running. Doesn't sound a particularly important one.
I think you need to revisit the Task Manager and select Internet Explorer this time. And end it rather than something else.
Apologies if I wasn't clear earlier. You have to highlight the rogue application. I assume that's IE.
