Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
Turn your computer off at the mains switch, wait 15 seconds, then switch it on again.

Right the cursor is back on and off laptop freezes though so i cant use it. Ive rang sky and they say to get in touch with the maker packard bell acer.ive taken the battery out etc.now ive got the screen up windows 8 and loaded the internet where it says chronium diddnt shut down correctly.

Can you give me advice as to getting this effing thing back to normal please
A new mouse can cost less than a fiver. You could try that. Or borrow someone's mouse and see if the problem persists
Reset your modem.
delete your history
run your antivirus
Is it a separate mouse? If so take it out and plug it back, preferably into another port. Does that work?
Is you cursor pad working?
^your
chroniun. Do you mean chrome?
I get that message about chrome quite often when my batter packs in. Just click to restore the pages
this happens to my wireless mouse quite often, the way I sort it is by taking the small usb receiver out of the computer for a few seconds

You could try restoring your system to an earlier system state before the problem started. See:-

Is your cursor pad working?
Ah, there you are. Copy cat!
It would be nice to know what operating system your using?
If Windows, can you start up in 'Safe mode' and if you can, does the mouse work ok then?
What is your usual AV program?
Cat and mouuse in the same thread?
I was repeating your excellent question Tilly because I'm not sure our attempts to help by asking for more info have been addressed. I'm not convinced Sky would know for sure it's a virus. I'd expect sky to tell me to try a new mouse
I think the mouse has been disabled and the pad might be the option.

Just a thought.
