If you start to scan something and look at the computer screen you should find, probably next to the "scan" button, small icon. Floating the cursor over this should say "save file settings". This is misleading and it's there for you to adjust the settings. Click on that and it will open up a new menu. On that menu you will be able to define the directory where the...

consider the inks Bathy..cheap printers abound but the cost of ink can be huge and cost more than the printer after a few cartridges are purchased
You haven't said whether you want colour or B&W. In either case think about a laserjet, which are cheaper in the long run and don't suffer from jets clogging etc. This B&W one gets good reviews in Amazon:

Oh thanks, bhg, that's a bit more than I wanted to pay, but will be cheaper in the long run with not having to buy coloured inks.
Thanks ever so much :)

I bought an HP one a couple of years ago but found when I scanned in photos they were terrible, like a Cezanne painting - broad flat strokes where there should have been fine detail. (I got an Epson instead.) I don't suppose all HP ones will be that bad but approach them with care.
In the days when I had an inkjet printer I found that I used more ink cleaning the heads than I did printing. I don't print frequently and found that the jets had clogged every time, wasting paper and ink. With a laser there's no clogging and the cartridges last a long time; I use non-branded replcements from Amazon.
Allen....I bought a very similar one to this last year from Tesco. At just £35:00, I think its very good value for money. It is wifi if you want it to be but can also be connected by a normal cable
If you mean the Brother linked by BHG it is USB and WiFi, not sure there is such a thing as a full sized WiFi only printer :-)
jno - I think your HP scanner must have been faulty - I've had two and had no problems with them.
Try your local council's amenity site. Many people will dispose of electrical like this especially older scanners which are not wireless. Will be very cheap. Then search the internet for cheap cartridges. I have two printers. One for documents for which I buy cheap cartridges and a better computer for photos etc for which I buy Canon cartridges.
I assumed Baths just didn't need wireless, as opposed to particularly having one without it. Any printer will connect using a cable.

Oh thanks allen! That looks to be exactly what I want :)
Will I have to buy a USB cable, or dya think it will come with one?

What's your objection to wireless Baths? These devices are receive only ie, won't send your printing to all and sundry and no-one can connect without your co-operation.

Would it be possible to use a wireless printer by connecting it to laptop with a cable?

Is that an Epson scanner you're referring to; you scan documents on it and it sends .phd files to your computer?
If you Google .phd file it will tell you how to deal with phd files, but I'm sure there's a setting in your scanner that determines what type of file it produces. I can't see that the scanner being wireless is anything to do with that.
I have to go out for an hour or so now; I'll be back later.
Hiya Baths, I've had this HP A.I.O. 2540 for some time now, can't remember what It cost at that time but it's been a good one, the cartridges are not that expensive, either Tesco or their own make, easy to maintain / Clean, you can bye off the ne Eg/ Ebay, have a look. xx
Yes, to your last question.
