According To Internet Order Forms, My Country Doesn't Exist!
This has been bothering me for a long time:
When I fill in an e-form on a site that I want to purchase something from, I have to choose my country from a drop-down box which doesn't list my country. All that I can do is click on a collective name for a group of countries which, as far as I'm concerned, I only live in one of. Why is this? I live in a real country, one which - believe me - really exists, and is recognised by every other nation on earth.
Many of these drop-down boxes have every country and every tiny, uninhabited, windswept, icebound rock on the planet listed - I mean, Bouvet Island, anybody? Nobody lives there, it's virtually inaccessible, and covered by a huge glacier. There's not even a scientific station there! But it's on the drop-down boxes.
How do I get round this, and get the sender to put my proper address on the packet or envelope?
Oh by the way... which country do I live in? Well, I don't live in Wales, I don't live in Scotland - and I definitely don't live in Northern flippin' Ireland... I live in ENGLAND!!! I'd happily compromise, and settle for 'England UK' if I could.
