The most frequently recommended printers here on AB are definitely those manufactured by Canon. (You've also had good service from your existing Canon printer for many years).

The most economical printers are those which use separate cartridges for each ink colour (rather than having all the coloured inks in a single cartridge).

A friend came over today and uninstalled the printer and then installed it again. Can you believe it seems to be scanning and printing with noticable difference in the ink output. Yes this printer has served me well for several years so I cant complain, maybe get afew more out of it. Thank you all for your input I will hold fire for the time being and see how things go x

Possibly not. Having checked it may highlight cheapness but not all-in-one. :-(

Buenchico I have a Cannon Pixma MG5550 and had a look at your ink link. The bigger black one is similar to cannon's own but the colour ones have 11ml instead of 7ml. As my last puchase of Cannon ink (I can only get it at Curry's/PC World) was £58 I wondered if the larger size colours would be okay for my printer. Can you confirm or negate please?

I have a Canon Pixma and it works well. Inks are cheap too. Been getting compatible ones from the link below and they seem to be as good as the originals with much more ink for a lot less money.

My current one is a HP Envy 5530.

After several problem printers I finally bought a Canon Maxify MB2350 which is the best I've ever had. As I use it professionally for pictures, I buy the original inks which are though, expensive.
