I keep quite a few icons on my desktop to access quickly. All of a sudden they have been commandeered by Google Chrome, Each one I click on comes up with the Google Chrome browser. When I look for the file on the computer it comes up as Google. Does anyone know how to rectify this. Any advice will be welcome.

I suspect that your computer has set Chrome to be its default browser. Try changing it back again: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-change-default-apps-windows-10

Have you tried a restart?
What did they open before?

Yes - this has been a gradual thing over days. At first I could delete the Google browser and the icon site I clicked on would be there. Today that does not happen - no site.

The icons were various - Answer Bank, Facebook, Dentists and on and on.
In which case you have somehow changed your default web browser from whatever it was to Chrome, do you know what browser you were using, if you type it into the Windows search bar (after you press the start button) and start it up it should ask you if you want to make it your default browser and everything should go back to what it was.
Maybe right click each and try to alter the "Open With" permanently ?

Have always used Google and Microsoft Edge as browsers. Have tried right clicking on the icons but only get Open with no option to open with. It just seems Google has taken them over. To be fair I brought the icons onto the desktop through Google and they were very easy to go to the sites without browsing. I have noticed that Google has put a string of sites along the top of their browser - so maybe that what I'll have to do now. Thanks for your replies. Just don't like being forced to change by Google.

Google is not a browser but a search engine.
