Drivers Win 10
4 Answers
Hi All,
i have a firewire edirol FA-101 device. As non of my three computers have firewire inputs, i bought a firewire card from a seller on Amazon. I have installed it, win 10 has given it a driver, which can be seen in device manager. The edirol is made by Roland, who do not have drivers for win 10, only 8.1. and earlier, like vista, 7 etc. I have downloaded win 8.1. installed the appropriate driver from roland, installation of driver gets half way through then stops, and thats it. I have tried it in win10, it does exactly the same.
When i plug the device into the computer with just the firewire lead ( no power adaptor) and switch on, the power light comes on, as does the firewire light, but nothing happens on the computer. Plugging power lead in as well makes no difference.
Now is the crunch, the roland site says to use a firewire card with a T.I. ( texas instruments) chip, the one I am using does not have that chip. Do you think that could be the problem? is there that much of a difference between cards??
I am now going to load Vista into the computer, and try the drivers, but i think the problem is deeper than that.
Thank you.

OK, win7, used the correct drivers from Roland, the firewire card driver was a generic one from Microsoft that automatically loaded,
So fault lies, I assume, in either the edirol or the pcie card, which has a via chipset.
I also have new firewire cable as well as the original one.
I also purchased a USB to firewire adaptor plug, just a small device, plugged in, the computer speaker gave out a buzzing sound for a few seconds, and it all went off, and will not restart. I have changed kettle lead for a known working one.
The computer is a small dell desktop, so difficult to play around inside, but I am going to assume the power transformer has blown, as when I try to power up there is absolutely nothing, not a glimmer of a light anywhere.
