Just recently when I try to download a Rapidshare file it comes up with this message

Your IP-address is already downloading a file. You have to wait until it is finished.

Anyone any ideas whats happened and how I can solve it

This normally happens when you try to download a second file while you are already downlading one.

If you ARE doing this you have to wait for the first file to finish.

If you are NOT doing this maybe you have a browser window open that WAS downloading a file but it has now finished. If so close the first browser window.

If you are only downloading one file then I am not sure what has gone wrong.

Are you perhaps sharing your internet connection with another person in the house and THEY are also downloading a file ?

I have never had ay luck with Rapidshare, and suspect that the problem is either that they consider a block of IP addresses as one address (or NTL share out one IP address between more multiple customers!).

It seems more likely to me that it is a trick to get you to stump up for a premium account.

I'm only downloading one file at a time and there are no other browser windows open when I am trying to do this. There is only one computer in the house.

Maybe it is a ruse to get you to sign up for the premium account but I was able to download the files ok until a few weeks ago.

Any other ideas?

Whenever you access the internet you do so through one of multiple servers run by your ISP. Thousands of users may be assigned the same server and so will have the same serverside IP address that is seen by Rapidshare.

If your ISP allows you to use a proxy server for browsing you can try other IP addresses which may not be currently hosting another customer's Rapidshare download but there is no way of knowing if these other servers are also being used for Rapidshare downloads or have surpassed the limit.
