sticker chart
I am thinking of doing a sticker reward chart for my son who is 4 in april. Do i reward good behaviour of not doing bad behaviour? Also any suggestions on what I could put on the chart?

She suggested that mum and child decide on a much desired toy and then either draw it or find a pic of it in a catalogue. It was then cut into squares, say, nine or twelve. Whenever her son behaved as desired, a square was stuck onto a card, a bit like a jigsaw. When all the bits were stuck on and the picture was completed, he had the toy as a reward. You wouldn't want too dear a toy and you need to keep the number of bits reasonable so your son can see that he's achieving. As for whether to reward good behaviour or for not being bad, doesn't it amount to the same thing? You could take each day at a time. I think it's important not to take rewards away once they have been achieved, so no peeling the bits off the chart!
quite like rubberduckie`s idea.
but i found that tots respond more to a hug when they do good and a sad face when they do wrong. at 4 years of age, kids know your emotions.
i remember someone saying "theyre just little adults" (dont worry it was said in context) treat them with the respect of little adults in a grown up world.
I used star charts with all five of mine, they all had a different colour, and loved to get their stars. They got a sad face if they were naughty, most of the time it was full of stars which kept them happy. I had the whole week on the chart and we would add up the stars at the end of the week.they are now all teenagers (twins 13, twins 15 and 1 18), maybe I should try and start one again, not sure how well that would go down though. I also used counting to 5 or 10, never knew what I would do if they didn't do what was asked of them when I got to 10. They just seemed to do it, I also had a naughty chair, one was on it a lot more than the others and for some reason they never got off until I said they could. Not sure it would work now though, teenagers are a totally different ball game, still trying to get the better of them lol.
