For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It is used when your computer has been really cocked up and want to go back to a point in time when it was running smoothly.
It obviously needs to be turned on and it runs in the background setting restoration points. If you need to use it, it does not loose and content of programs recently used, such as Word, Excell or any downloaded photos etc. It will loose any programs you have downloaded after the restoration point you have choosen.
To use it all you need do is click on a date where "system checkpoint" is written in bold and just follow the instructions on screen. It's easy and can be a life saver !!!
click on START then HELP and SUPPORT then click Undo changes using SYSTEM RESTORE.
Choose any of the "darkened dates" and the computer will revert to that day.
It normally creates a restore point every day you have your computer on so if you are having problems today 1/4/6 you can revert back to sometime in March when you know it was running OK.
