On on side the box contain the dates, and on the other the box contains details of system changes for that date. There is no info in this box if no system changes or restore points were made, and restore points are made either when you choose, or after a set time, for which the computer has to be on. My PC is on 18 hours a day, so it's pretty quick getting to the next restore point, but if you are only using it a few hours a day, there will be a big gap between restore points.
Usually dates with restore points are shown in bold, so you can easily find them. Try looking, or failing that, try creating one yourself - that way at least you'll know nothing's wrong with system restore.
