not sure. It is illegal.

Try taping over the holes on the videos. The player may take this as a sign that they were pre-recorded. With the holes covered, it may well think that these are home recorded tapes and allow it.

It's illegal. You can hack your machine to ignore the copyright but it doesn't always work and invalidates any guarantee.
How are you trying to do this? Just "play" them into a DVD recorder. The tape doesn't know what it's playing into.

thanks for answers sofar i have a combined dvd.video recorder i use speed dub to try and copy it works great on home recorded videos but not on precorded videos holes taped over or otherwise a pity because some of the videos are not available on dvd
Then if you play it into a separate DVD recorder it will record ok. The combined unit is taking it upon itself to stop you copying tapes that have the tabs missing.
They will not record from any video recorder on to that dvd recorder.

I have a seperate vcr hooked up to my dvd recorder and it wil not record copyrighted videos.

It appears to be recording - chugs along nicely.

At the end of the recording the dvd displays the first frame of the film with a copyright symbol - the rest of the recording is entirely blank.
