Setting up a Router 4/8/06

Can anybody help me please to setup a router on my laptop I'm having difficulty setting it up,I get a message saying they can't find my router and I don't know what I've done wrong.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.leighj, it's a Netgear DG834G v2 54Mbps ADSL Firewall Router and ny Laptop is Wi-fi enabled, I got this Router from AOL as this is the only one of two that will work on AOL.
I tried again this afternoon but when the router is on it can't find my IP adress or No of my computer,I hope you understand what I'm saying I'm new on these things but thanks for any help you can give me.

leighj,I don't understand what you mean,I thought that the signal was ok but the router can't get my IP No or No of the computer I hope you understand what I'm talking about,also can you have the same internet name for your computer and the same for your laptop or do they have to be different names.

Here's the situation as i understand it..
You have a Router, newly purchased and into it have connected your Internet cable and power socket.
You have then switched on the router.
On your laptop, your Wireless is enabled and it has found your wireless network, but you have encountered a problem here. Is that correct?
What exactly is the problem?
