Your iPod will mirror your iTunes Music Library so if the songs are no longer there, your iPod will delete them too. Is this what is happening?

no, i havent updated my ipod for a while so it cant delete them, i know of that process. i still have the 'ghost' copies in itunes so it wouldn't delete them but not the actual song so it wontput it back on my ipod. all of the playlists have gone as well.
b*llocks!
I've never heard of this happening before.

With them still on your computer, use iPod Updater to restore your iPod, and then sync it with iTunes again to get all your songs back on.
