I recently updated my McAfee anti-virus, firewall and spam-killer to find that my computer has slowed down tremendously.
Surfing the net has become painfully slow.
I want to get back to my previous computer speed without leaving my computer open for all and sundry. Does anyone have any advice as to what security is available that does not have a detrimental effect on computer speed?
As both Ethel and Vehelfulguy suggest, there is point in paying for any security software. AVG updates and scans daily and consistently scores 100% in independent tests of virus detection.
The vast majority of the 'regulars' here in AB's Technology section, myself included, use AVG in combination with the free version of Zone Alarm. They deal with all of the real security threats to your PC but it's also a good idea to use something like AdAware Personal Edition.
Must agree with everbody on here about avg have beenusing it for a few years now and has been great, I also use spybot s & d for spyware wcich is equally as good but I am only using the windows xp firewall think that I will take the advise what you say and use zone alarm as I have heard that is supposed to be excelent as well Cheers........
