What's a blog?

Was just looking on myspace, for the first time and got a bit confused at the whole concept.... especially the blog bits? What are they? Are they topic conversations or links? And whats the difference between these and any other chatroom?

A blog is short for weblog. It's essentially an online diary how ever it has tended to move away from being a personal diary type of thing to become a regularly updated site about a particular subject.
