Installing a new hard drive

I have recently purchased a new 500GB hard drive but it will not install onto my machine.

I am already running a 200GB WD(Western Digital).HDD, and this is the new 500GB WD.HDD. I went though the same procedure as i did for the other drive but it will not install. Does any one have any ideas? It is running on SATA, i have looked at the BIOS settings and everything is as it should be. I also updated the BIOS version.

You havn't used the RAID controller ports have instead of the singular SATA ports.?? Some Mobos have RAID ports.

Not sure if you have to enable each individual SATA port in teh BIOS.

if it is being used as a slave ,, have you set the jumpers correctly

If you are using SATA you do not have a jumper setting. It depends on the mobo slot as to what the HDD will do.

You don't have master/slave settings for SATA
the correct jumper setting is c/sel.(so why do they still have jumpers?)

Try looking in the BIOS it's possible that the ports have been disabled
Does the disc show up there?

if your other disc is 200Gb I doubt it's LBA48 problems.

Is the disc spinning when you switch on?
have you checked the connector ...
SATA connectors are known for springing out of their fixings

how did you partition/format the disc
primary - extended/logical -
how many partitions .... and what file system fat or NTFS
