for the video to PC problem, the thing is that all pre-recorded videos have a protection system called macrovision to prevent copying. There are video enhancers that "enhance" the signal to make the effects of macrovision invisible. If it is your own recordings then you will need a graphics card with VIVO (Video In Video Out) or a Video Capture card (Pinnacle make them for example). There is plenty of free capture software or you could purchase something like Sony Vegas or Pinnacle Studio which will do capturing and editing in one package.
