When I turned on my desktop this morning, after a couple of minutes a noise started.I switched the computer off and then on again but the noise still continued. The noise sounds like another machine noise - if that makes sense !!
Any ideas what it could be please ?

There is a good chance it is only a noisy fan, if so they are fairly easy to replace and only coat a couple of quid'
If it's a noisy fan, get it replaced. Otherwise, one day, the noise will stop, and you'll forget it. But when the noise stops,it usually means that the fan has died.

Thank you both - at least it does not sound too expensive !!!!
rather than just a noisy fan .... check for a fluffy processor heatsink. If the heatsink is clogged .... the processor will overheat - the fan will run at full speed .... and you'll notice the noise.

given more time the pc will shutdown

if not go dougie
