tv wont stay on

when i turn my tv on it only remains on for about 1 second and then switches off....any ideas?

Might be your fuse. Take it to a shop and get it repaired.

Are you sure there is not a vcr tape stuck inside?

Given the quality of current TV programmes I think 1 second is just about long enough. Try listening to the radio, better still go for a walk.

When it has turned itself off, do you hear a feint ticking noise from inside the TV? (a bit like the high-pitched noise a camera flash makes, but repeatedly). If so, it's probably the power supply - it has a safety trip circuit which resets the supply if it overloads. This is a second stage safety-measure for when something else has gone wrong. Sounds like a repair job!
