AS a kid, i was told the ice that condenses on the sides of a freezer by condensation was poisonous. Is this true, and if so, why?

No, it's a fib. The water itself is quite pure. The only danger comes from the particles of uncooked food (complete with bacteria) that might be picked up in freezing.
